Julia Chavez is a Los Angeles–based Makeup & FX Artist with over a decade of experience working at the intersection of cinematic realism, large-scale spectacle, and live performance environments.
For 13 years, Julia served as a Supervising FX Artist for Insomniac Events, where she designed and executed character looks, prosthetics, and transformational makeup for massive, interactive festival worlds. Working at scale and under extreme time pressure, she became known for her ability to deliver camera-ready, high-impact results in fast-moving, high-stakes environments. Alongside her festival work, Julia has spent 12 years as a Scenic Artist contributing to projects for Disney, Netflix, Travel Channel, Bravo, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History. Her scenic work spans murals, backdrops, immersive environments, and specialty finishes—bringing a painter’s eye and a filmmaker’s sensibility to physical space. Julia’s background also includes 3 years as a Regional Beauty Representative for Dolce & Gabbana, grounding her FX and character work in refined beauty technique, skin realism, and high-end finish. This dual fluency—beauty and distortion, polish and grit—allows her to move seamlessly between subtle on-camera makeup and full character transformation. Today, Julia works across feature films, music videos, short films, live events, and experiential productions, specializing in prosthetics, blood effects, character makeup, hair and makeup, and scenic integration. She is known for her calm, collaborative presence on set, strong continuity awareness, and the ability to execute under pressure without compromising artistic integrity. Whether building a character from the ground up or supporting a fast-paced production, Julia brings precision, adaptability, and a deep respect for the camera.
